We are excited to announce that we are currently recruiting older bilingual and multilingual adults living with mild cognitive impairement for our project! To get involved, you need to match the following criteria:
If you meet these requirements and are interested in taking part, please have a look at the expression of interest information.
To sign up, you can either contact us by phone or email, or if you prefer - complete our expression of interest online form. A member of our team will be in touch after we receive your submitted form. If you have any questions or want to discuss anything further with us first, please see our contact details on the Contacts page.
If you decide to take part, we will schedule an appointment with you, choosing a time and location that work best for you. On the day, two people from our research team (Imran and Zlati) will meet you. They will explain each of the tasks to you and answer any questions you might have. They will also bring the study laptop. You will not have to interact with the laptop yourself, we will do that for you. We use the laptop to show you the tasks and record your responses. In the main task, we will show you some pictures of daily life situations. We will ask you to describe in one sentence the situations that you see on the pictures, in the languages you speak. We will audio record your responses. You will also do a few small interview-like additional tasks, where you’d have to answer simple questions (for example, what type of books you like to read) or tell stories. This will be followed by a very short video where you’ll be asked to observe and try to remember a cartoon-like tour of a house where you are shown different furniture and situations. Finally, we will ask you to complete a couple of short questionnaires about how you learned your languages and how you have been using them throughout your life, as well as your overall cognitive abilities. If you are accompanied by a family member or close person, we may ask them to complete a very short questionnaire too. At the very end, we will compensate you with £25 cash and some gifts to thank you for your participation.
Here is also a video explanation of the study, in your language (click on image to open in new window on YouTube):
